Fraudsters know shoppers are looking for great deals and often use offers that look too good to miss. They use fake shopping websites, emails, SMSs and social media adverts to lead you to fraudulent sites designed to steal your card and banking details.
Quick tips to keep safe: Pause, check, and then shop.
Things to remember:
- Never share your OTP, Nedbank ID, or card details over the phone or via links.
- Do not click on any links. Instead, go to the merchant’s website directly. You should be able to find the deal there if it is legitimate.
- Research unfamiliar retailers and check reviews before buying.
- Download apps from official app stores only.
- Use virtual cards for online purchases and delete them after your purchase.
- Always read banking notifications carefully before approving a transaction.
- Report suspicious activity, lost or stolen devices, or fraudulent SIM swaps immediately on 0800 110 929.
Important: If Nedbank calls you about a suspicious transaction, confirm only whether it's yours or not.
What not to do: Never move your money to another account, process a transaction, accept an Approve-it message, or share your OTP, Nedbank ID or card details. Nedbank will never ask you to take any of these actions to reverse a fraudulent transaction or to protect your account.
By selecting I acknowledge, you confirm that you have read and understood this fraud prevention message. If you do not follow these precautions or if there is negligence on your part, your money may be lost permanently.
