How this scam works
Fraudsters are targeting online shoppers by sending fake emails and SMSs that appear to be from courier companies or the South African Post Office. They then ask you to click on a link to process a payment to receive your package.
Clicking on links is risky! They take you to web pages where you are asked for your card details or digital banking username and password.
Tips to keep safe
- If you didn’t order it, don’t accept it, and don’t click on any links.
- If you are expecting a parcel, verify that the message is from the real courier using the tracking number.
- Read one-time password (OTP) messages carefully, and make sure that your details are not being misused for a digital wallet.
- Before you share your banking info, double-check with the courier's official channels.
- If you suspect that your information has been compromised, call 0800 110 929 immediately.
