Direct marketing and service messages – what is the difference?

At Nedbank, we send out different types of messages to keep you informed. Like you, our banking services and products are constantly evolving. What suited your needs in your 20s could be vastly different from what you need in the more advanced stages of your life. Therefore, from time to time we will send you messages so that you are aware of products or services that may be suitable for you.

We also send messages to help manage your accounts, as well as educational information.

Let's break down the difference for you

1  Direct marketing messages

These messages promote our products and services. You receive them because you opted in to receive direct marketing communications. We try to keep these to a minimum through strict internal rules to avoid overwhelming you. Each message we send you has an opt-out option should you wish not to receive these messages – find out how to opt out below.

Examples of direct marketing messages:

  1. Promotions for credit cards, loans, investment products, or any other product or service we offer.
  2. Personalised product recommendations based on your banking history.

2  Service messages

As a responsible financial service provider, we have a duty to keep you informed and that’s where service messages play a vital role. Service messages are not optional, and you cannot opt out of these.

Service messages include the following:

  1. Transaction alerts (e.g. deposits, withdrawals, or payments).
  2. Security notifications (e.g. fraud warnings, login attempts, or password changes).
  3. Pricing updates or important service changes (e.g. branch closures).
  4. Payment due reminders for loans or credit cards.

We hope this helps you understand the difference between the messages you receive from us. If you have any questions or need further assistance, call us on 0800 555 111.
