Essential tips to help keep your bank details safe

Never share secret information

Don't share your card PIN, expiry date or CSC number (the 3 or 4-digit security code), or Nedbank ID username and password over the phone or on websites accessed from a link in an email or text message.

Read your banking notifications

Always read your banking notifications carefully. They can help prevent fraud. If you receive a one-time password (OTP) or Approve-it message for a transaction you didn't make, reject it and call us immediately on 0800 110 929. Never share your OTP with anyone.

Report lost or stolen devices and fraudulent SIM swaps

If your mobile device is lost or has been stolen, or you suspect a fraudulent SIM swap or number port, contact your service provider to block the SIM card and let us know immediately by calling 0800 110 929.

Watch out for app download scams

Fraudsters may post fake ads for discounted flights or products and ask you to download a fake app using a link they have sent you. Once installed, the app can give them access to your device, and they may install malware without your knowledge. Download apps from official stores like the Apple App Store and Google Play only.

Avoid unfamiliar websites

Be cautious when entering your card details on unfamiliar websites or those offering unrealistically low prices with automatic subscriptions or long-term payments. Always read the terms and conditions. Do your research, and check online reviews.

Be aware of fraudulent requests

We will never ask for your secret information (eg card or banking login details), or ask you to move your money to another account. If we call you about a suspicious transaction, simply confirm whether it is yours. Do not share any personal information, approve anything, or move your money.

Steps to take if you suspect fraud

If you suspect that you have been a victim of fraud, or that your details have been compromised, do the following:

  • Call us immediately on 0800 110 929.
  • Block your card using the freeze/unfreeze function on the Money app.
  • Change your Nedbank ID username and password on the Money app immediately.
